Hello, my name is Alexandria Carlson and I’m an LPCC living in Toledo Ohio. I'm originally from Chicago and Denver, Colorado. I love what I do and am passionate in my mission to help my clients thrive. While there are commonalities to any mental health diagnosis, I also believe each person has their own individual experience and honor that in treatment. I have experience working with those diagnosed with eating disorders and currently treat those at an outpatient level of care. If you're unsure of where your mental health stands, I'm happy to meet for a free consult to see if I am the right provider for you. Please note if you are experiencing symptoms that require medically monitored care, I may refer you to a resource within the community. Overall, it is to continue to help my clients create room for impactful acceptance & change that will help them to live a fulfilling and effective life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we can start to spend time getting to know each other and then move into an assessment space. We will clarify & define specific problems & goals that you want to work on in treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a therapist are that I have a knack for helping others to feel comfortable, heard & aware in treatment. While I strive to clarify treatment goals and utilize evidence-based practices to help my clients create real change and acceptance in their life, I still feel it’s important to really get to know the person in front of me. I can confidently say that I don’t think I've lost sight of that in my 9 years of practice.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy alongside behavioral activation therapy, a subset of CBT, to help my clients find awareness of helpful & unhelpful thinking that can have an important impact on how they see life and the actions they take each day that contribute to depression. By working collaboratively with clients to reframe their thinking and develop healthier coping strategies, CBT equips individuals with the tools to effectively manage and cope with distressing thoughts and feelings which makes room for a person to create long lasting change.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to treat depression and anxiety symptoms because it helps clients cultivate psychological flexibility, enabling them to better manage difficult emotions and anxious thoughts. By teaching individuals to accept their feelings without judgment and commit to values-based actions, ACT empowers them to break free from the grip of depression and anxiety to build a more fulfilling life.

Daialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a leading treatment for depression & anxiety as it combines cognitive and behavioral techniques with a focus on mindfulness and emotional regulation. This comprehensive approach enables clients to learn to tolerate distressing emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and ultimately reduce depression's impact on their lives.
