I believe that the relationships we develop with significant people in our lives shape who we are, how we think about ourselves and how we act. I have a great deal of experience working with individuals and couples on a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, communication, birth of a baby, parenting and general couples discord. I strive to help individuals identify the way relationships are formed and maintained to improve the connections with self and others. My focus is to help build trust, work through anger and increase connections to form safe, securely functioning relationships. I encourage clients to ask questions in session and approach treatment as collaboration. As a therapist with over 15 years of experience I would like to use what I have learned to help you and significant people in your life develop a stronger bond.
In our first appointment, I'll gather information from you, discuss your desired outcome, reasons for seeking therapy and we'll co-develop treatment goals. In our following sessions together, we'll work to discover the patterns in your communication and relational skills. We will explore the ways you express love and like to have love expressed towards you.
I use a variety of tools to help with communication, understanding the connection between our thoughts and actions and practical tools to help with regulation. I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy approach to work with emotional regulation.
My biggest strength as a therapist is my ability to help you understand how your current thoughts/behaviors are functioning for you and how to get those needs met in a more adaptive way. I am also able to help you communicate your thoughts and feelings to those in your life, leading to more confidence, understanding, and self awareness. I provide an empathetic approach with real life, concrete examples to help you manage the areas of your life you would like to improve.
