Hi, my name is Nora. Have you been wondering how to make sense of what has been happening in your relationships, or what has been happening inside yourself? Do you need more clarity about how to function as your best in the world, for yourself, with others, and perhaps regarding your faith? In our counseling journey together, I will bring many years of experience as we partner in finding deep understandings of your personality, communication style, childhood wounds affecting current relationships, as well as your gifts and strengths. We will use my effective model of gaining insight into the interplay between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, which will alleviate anxiety and depression symptoms. With your significant other, are you frustrated with patterns of drifting apart, escalating conflict or issues of trust? We will look at proven methods of enhanced communication and emotional reconnection. Are you a person of faith? Let me walk with you in growing your relationship with God through Christ, pulling strength from spiritual wisdom. Whatever your concerns individually or relationally, I look forward to meeting you and working with you for your best life!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session we will be getting to know one another. I will be asking you questions on a variety of topics so that I can "paint the picture" to myself of you and your life story, so that I will be positioned to best serve you. We will talk about what you are looking for and hoping for in your counseling journey, and we'll discuss how I can work with you to reach the goals you have in mind.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a therapist is the supportive connection I make with my clients. I love people. My life experience is working with people of all ages in Christian ministry and counseling, in groups and individually, for both spiritual and psychological growth--the growth comes through gaining knowledge and skills. I make my clients feel received, respected, heard, and empowered for what they envision for their life. Another strength I bring is the collaborative nature of discussing what interventions are best for your goals, and my capacity to bring various modalities forward as your needs become apparent, and as they shift throughout the counseling experience.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I will teach you a process that includes understanding how thoughts and emotions are connected, and how to use emotional self-awareness to clarify what is going on inside. Then we will work on reframing your thoughts where there is irrational negativity, to include affirmations about every positive thing you bring to the table of your life. We will use all this information to look at next steps so you can go from feeling stuck to moving in a hopeful and healthy direction.

Couples Counseling

For couples, we work on emotional self-regulation to create safety for communication. We will use the Imago Dialogue method of communication, which was designed to make it safe for couples to work on any issue, especially those issues that are a struggle. We will also use the principles from Drs. John and Julie Gottman, who have been researching for decades what makes marriage work (or not work). The Gottman principles lay the foundation for reconnection when couples have become disconnected emotionally from each other. The Imago Dialogue plus the Gottman principles put into action are a powerful way to rebuild trust where trust has been broken.

Christian Counseling

As a person of faith since age 12, and as a pastoral leader since my twenties, I care deeply about the Christian spiritual journey. According to each individual's needs/requests, we may look at hope conveyed in the principles of Scripture, healing of the heart through honesty with ourselves and God, and the peace of mind that is available through the prayerful life. We may also discuss how our faith is relevant to our relationships and purpose in the world.
