Welcome! I'm Debra Sollitto. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from New York. I graduated from New York University with a Master's Degree in Social Work. I have been treating clients with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and various other psychiatric conditions for almost 30 years. Take a moment to acknowledge you've taken the first step towards bettering your mental health because, let's be honest - starting therapy can be empowering, confusing, or scary, all at the same time. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows clients to explore obstacles with concerns related to anxiety, depression, and/or self-care. I focus on helping clients develop assertive communication & boundaries with themselves and those around them that can help improve their quality of life. Counseling can foster personal development in whatever way you may be seeking and help build the life you so deeply deserve. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here when you're ready to share.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we can get acquainted and discuss the issues that brought you to therapy. We will develop a treatment plan together so that you will be able to measure the growth that you make as we move forward.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My 30 years of working with clients have given me a wealth of experience in many areas. I have worked with adults, children, and families. I have served those with developmental delays, educational issues, and clients of all ages and from many different backgrounds.

My treatment methods

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

During therapy sessions utilizing Emotionally Focused Therapy, I act as a guide to coach the couple to use new communication styles to discuss old problems and create new solutions. I then encourage the couple to practice the skills they learn outside of the sessions. Together, we plan to make new interaction patterns a consistent part of their life.

Family Therapy

During therapy sessions, I emphasize the interconnectedness of family members and how changes in one part of the family system can impact the entire family. We practice problem-solving, planned interventions, finding a space to reevaluate or reshape harmful narratives, and finding ways to shift unhealthy patterns.

Grief Therapy

Bereavement therapy has been shown to help bereaved adults in distress. I offer treatment specific to the individual to deliver maximum benefits rather than provide routine interventions. Bereavement interventions have been shown to speed up the adjustment process, with individuals ultimately regaining pre-loss levels of functionality.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I utilize a strength-based approach based on solution-building rather than problem-solving during therapy sessions. Unlike other forms of psychotherapy that focus on present problems and past causes, SFBT concentrates on your current circumstances and future hopes.

Motivational Interviewing

During therapy sessions, I focus on helping people find the motivation to make a positive behavior change. This client-centered approach is particularly effective for people with mixed feelings about changing their behavior.
