Hello! Thank you for beginning this journey. If this is your first time in therapy, welcome. Getting started can be tough, especially talking to someone you don't know about things that make you uncomfortable, sad, angry, or embarrassed. I maintain a nonjudgmental space and a process that is introspective. Therapy is difficult sometimes and at other times it can be an enjoyable part of your week. I encourage you to express your thoughts freely and without apology. Whether you had a not-so-great counseling experience in the past, or you’re returning because prior experiences helped you trust therapy and its benefits, you are welcome here. I look forward to working together. Jennifer

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first therapy session, you can expect a welcoming environment, active listening, empathy, and collaboration. We will review the intake paperwork, I will share some information, and I will ask you to tell me about what brought you to therapy at this time. The first few sessions are about building rapport, since little can be accomplished until a strong therapeutic relationship is established.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 25 years of experience. I'm a neutral party who listens without judgment and gives honest feedback, and I will help you identify the patterns that you want to change. While experience and education are necessary to do this work, I believe that my lived experience has profoundly impacted my ability to build therapeutic relationships as well as my ability to be an effective therapist. In terms of strengths, I am authentic, resilient, intelligent, curious, non-judgmental, and funny.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients address negative thought patterns and behaviors. Through structured sessions, we challenge irrational beliefs and develop healthier coping strategies. In my practice, I integrate CBT techniques to guide clients in recognizing and modifying harmful thought patterns, fostering positive change and resilience.

Psychodynamic

Exploring how our past influences who we are today, including the choices we make, how we engage in relationships, and our overall perception of ourselves and the world around us.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is a therapy intervention that involves the therapist providing their client with information about their diagnosis, symptoms, or the method of treatment used.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed care acknowledges the need to understand a patient's life experiences in order to deliver effective care

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT focuses on helping people accept the reality of their lives and their behaviors, as well as helping them learn to change their lives, including their unhelpful behaviors. Key concepts include radical acceptance; emotional regulation; distress tolerance and mindfulness.
