Hello! Thank you for beginning this journey. If this is your first time in therapy, welcome. Getting started can be tough, especially talking to someone you don't know about things that make you uncomfortable, sad, angry, or embarrassed. Therapy is difficult sometimes and at other times it can be an enjoyable part of your week. I encourage you to express your thoughts freely and without apology. Whether you had not-so-great counseling experiences in the past, or you’re returning because prior experiences helped you trust therapy and its benefits, you are welcome here. I look forward to working together. Jennifer
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
In your first therapy session, you can expect a welcoming environment, active listening, and collaboration. We will review your intake paperwork, I will share some information, and I will ask you to tell me what brought you to therapy at this time. The first few sessions are about authenticity and building rapport, since connection is key to a therapeutic relationship.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 25 years of experience. I'm a neutral party who listens without judgment and gives honest feedback, and I will help you identify the patterns that you want to change. While experience and education are necessary to do this work, I believe that my lived experience has profoundly impacted my ability to be an effective therapist. In terms of strengths, I am authentic, resilient, intelligent, curious, non-judgmental, and funny.
