I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work. I have been practicing in social work since undergrad back in 2007. I mostly work with adults in life transitions, difficult stressors (work, family or medical), chronic health conditions and pain. I became a mental health provider because I am passionate about helping people regain their life back, having hope for better days and overcoming difficult situations and traumatic events. Life can have ups and downs and it's okay to ask for help and to say “this is hard”.
Our first session or two is about getting to know you and what is going on in your particular situation. I am inquisitive and take a non-judgmental approach which is warm and supportive.
While we cannot change circumstances of the past I can help provide support, help you unlearn maladaptive behavior patterns and/or restructure your negative perceptions. If we determine that Brainspotting or EMDR are a good match for your needs we can use those modalities to reduce anxiety, depression, trauma or other aspects related to trauma. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. "Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear" - Mark Twain
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented type of talk therapy. I personally feel this is a classic, so highly effective, research based and one of my favorite choices! Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can help manage anxiety, depression, stress and challenge distorted thinking patterns. CBT can also help manage non psychological health conditions, such as insomnia and chronic pain.
EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma. (Taken from Emdria.org) I recently completed my certificate with EMDR and going on for my certification in this. Together with Brainspotting I have well over 100 hours in specialized training in these modalities.
Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. Brainspotting (BSP) was discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D. Over 13,000 therapists have been trained in BSP (52 internationally), in the United States, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and Africa. Dr. Grand discovered that "Where you look affects how you feel." It is the brain activity, especially in the subcortical brain that organizes itself around that eye position (Taken from brainspotting.com). I have completed training under Dr. Pie Frey and Lisa Larson. I completed Brainspotting I, II. Together with EMDR I have well over 100 hours in specialized training in these modalities. I completed my first training in Brainspotting in 2019. I am a major fan of Brainspotting and it's impact on individuals!
Person-centered therapy, also known as Rogerian therapy or client-based therapy, employs a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in sessions such that, in the process, they discover their own solutions.
This is such a personal topic I feel for so many. As a therapist I do not push my values off on anyone. If anyone wishes to incorporate this into their counseling I will be more than willing to do so as I believe wholeheartedly this is effective.
