I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 18 years of experience in the mental health field. The majority of my experience has been working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression and trauma. I use a very humanistic and client-centered approach to help clients to feel they can share thoughts and feelings safely and free from judgement. I understand that asking for help and facilitating change in your life takes a lot of courage. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and I am here as a resource to support you through achieving your goals.
In the first session with a client, my primary goal would be to begin to establish a positive relationship, hear your specific concerns and challenges and to help you identify your treatment goals. I believe that therapy should be done both positively and collaboratively. To this end, I will begin by asking specific questions, assisting you in identifying your strengths, and asking you to share your motivation and goals for treatment. Together we will develop a plan for treatment to address your goals and needs.
One of my biggest strengths is my ability to connect with others and provide empathy and understanding. As well as taking a strengths-based approach to helping clients through their individual needs.
I utilize CBT to help clients to understand and connect how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected and impact functioning. Also to teach the client skills to cope and reduce negative thoughts.
I use the DBT practice to address concerns with those with mindfulness, interpersonal relationships, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation skills.
I used trauma focused CBT with children and adolescents to guide them through providing psychoeducation, coping skills and processing their trauma.
I utilize a client-centered, empathetic approach to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space that allows for processing and exploring the negative patterns in your life, barriers to change, and moving towards healing, growth, and change.
