Hi! I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counsellor (LPCC-S) based in OHIO. I received my Associate of Arts in Biblical Studies from Ohio Christian University. Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Ethics from Mid-America Christian University, Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from South University. I have worked with clients ranging from 6 to 80 years of age, in community and private practice settings. I have also worked with Medical Students at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine helping young adults struggling to become the best versions of themselves. I am a Certified Grief Recovery Method Specialist (Online Capabilities Trained). This method has allowed me and others to move through the grief recovery healing process.
Our first session will be the intake assessment which is usually 60-90 minutes, we'll start with brief introductions, go over some paperwork if needed, and then dive into learning more about the specific challenges you're facing. This will help create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I feel that I am an accepting and non-judgmental person who genuinely cares for the welfare of others. While I have particular theoretical orientations, my approach is client-driven and designed to meet the particular needs of the individual. I have worked with individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds. Each person is unique and deserves to be treated as such. These strengths combine to create a supportive and effective counseling environment where you can feel valued, understood, and motivated to work toward your goals.
Melinda Phillips LPCC-S offers therapy covered by Buckeye Health Plan, Buckeye Health Plan (Managed Medicaid), CareSource, Medicaid - Buckeye Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Ohio.
I have been using CBT in my practice and it has had great success. CBT is an evidence-based therapeutic approach examining how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact yourself and relationships in your life; however, I have a wide range of tools and modalities to utilize during our time together! we will work together to evaluate and identify what modality would be best for you with the goal on how to improve your way of living in a healthy stabilized life. CBT emphasizes helping individuals learn to be their therapists. Through exercises in the session as well as “homework” exercises outside of sessions, patients/clients are helped to develop coping skills, whereby they can learn to change their thinking, problematic emotions, and behavior.
This short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach incorporates positive psychology principles and practices and helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems.
Motivational interviewing is a counseling approach designed to help people find the motivation to make a positive behavior change. In motivational interviewing, I help people explore their feelings and find their own motivations.
By incorporating faith into therapy, my goal is to empower clients to discover their inner strength, deepen their spiritual connection, and cultivate lasting change. I believe that integrating one's beliefs into the therapeutic process can lead to profound transformation and growth.
If this is your method of choice, We can use those bible principles to see ourselves the same way God sees us. Bible principles are combined with evidence-based practices to help individuals achieve their goals.
