Hello! I'm Brittany and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC). I have been in the field of addiction and mental health for 16 years. I help individuals struggling with substance use build internal motivation, identify healthy coping mechanisms, repair relationships, and identify their triggers for use. I work with individuals ages 18-64. I have specialized training in addictions, working with the LGBTQIA+ community, trauma, and foster care/adoption.
In our first session, clients can expect to review expectations (for both of us!), how they would like therapy to look and feel for them, and explore what brought them to therapy. The first session is what we call a biopsychosocial assessment-- that means we look at all aspects of your life and identify strengths and weaknesses.
Having worked with individuals struggling with addiction and/or coming to therapy for the first time, I pride myself on being non-judgmental and supportive. I am very conscious of what each client needs and wants out of the therapeutic process, and adjust my approach to each person individually. When working with foster/adoptive parents, I feel that my own experience being a foster/adoptive parent can help build a rapport and provide understanding and support.
I love working with individuals who are new to therapy. I also enjoy working with foster and adoptive parents. I am passionate about helping them explore their beliefs and values, strengths and weaknesses, and short-term and long-term goals.
Through CBT, I help clients identify and reframe negative thought patterns, promoting healthier emotional responses and more adaptive behaviors.
I create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel supported in exploring their emotions and developing self-kindness and resilience.
By using DBT, I help clients build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness to manage intense emotions and improve relationships.
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore and resolve ambivalence, enhancing their internal motivation to make meaningful changes in their behavior.
By using GAT, I support clients in exploring and affirming their gender identity, while advocating for their rights and well-being.
