Hello, I'm Shawnta (pronounced with a long a sound at the end)! Do you want to rediscover yourself in a way that moves you forward in life toward purpose and joy? Are you experiencing challenges in moving forward after a significant loss? Do you find yourself consumed with the past and not able to move forward? You have made a huge, important step by seeking therapy. I help men, women, and adolescents overcome challenges related to depression and anxiety. Together, we can identify where you are and where you want to be, what's working and what's not working, and set a plan on how to move forward. I approach therapy from a person-centered model, so your goals for therapy will be rooted in what you would like to accomplish. I look forward to working with you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session together will involve us getting to know one another better and I will need to obtain a lot of background information, in addition to what is currently bringing you into therapy. This is the assessment phase. After assessing what your needs are, we will work on a plan that includes goals for therapy. I will engage you in discussion and activities that help you work on your goals. I will assign homework at times and will expect you to practice skills from session outside of session. In each session, we will discuss how the skills worked and make any adjustments needed until you are experiencing success.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I use cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and acceptance and commitment therapeutic techniques. Talk therapy will be the mode of methods and we will work through activities and practice skills from these approaches in session.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strengths as a therapist are active listening and taking the information clients share with me and conceptualizing that in a way that helps my clients feel heard and understood. I will help you to dig deeper and to glean deeper understanding of yourself and the patterns that have been holding you back.
