Hello, my name is Lula Thomas, I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and have been in practice for over ten years. I genuinely love what I do and believe in a holistic patient-centered approach. If you ever feel sad overwhelmed, lack motivation, struggle with goals, or don't enjoy things you used to, I am here to help.
During the psychiatric evaluation preparation is key. We will review medical history, medication history, symptoms, and previous mental health treatments to make the most of our visit. My goal is to provide resources as you undertake your mental health journey. Every interaction is focused on positive motivational communication, informed care, and working together to achieve personal goals. I have a specialty for “people and advocacy” and look forward to assisting others on the journey to improved mental well-being. I believe in a team approach, where we work together to establish the most effective treatment goals unique to your needs. Every visit is not only an evaluation of your progress but an opportunity to communicate, receive reassurance, or make decisions. My primary focus is on prescribing medications, but I always recommend psychotherapy to address the source of mental health symptoms and additional coping.
My greatest strengths lie in my ability to actively listen and empathize with patients, fostering a safe and nonjudgmental environment for them to express their thoughts and feelings. I am adept at utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques tailored to each individual's needs, facilitating their journey towards self-discovery and healing. Additionally, my commitment to ongoing education and staying abreast of advancements in mental health care allows me to provide the highest quality of treatment and support to my patients.
I have worked with all ages both male and female from all backgrounds, with various levels of education and skill, as well as confronting many difficulties, obstacles, handicaps, and challenges.
Psychotherapy is always encouraged in addition to medication management when possible. I use various techniques such as Supportive therapy, Motivational techniques, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and/or Mindfulness throughout each visit to reinforce coping skills, listening, empathy, and managing symptoms.
