EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages one to focus briefly on a trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. DBT provides clients with new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships by providing therapeutic skills in four key areas: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. I use Imago Therapy in relationship counseling as I have found it to be the most effective form of couple’s work that I have come across. Couples who use what they learn can transform their relationship and deepen their connection.
