Hello! My name is Rukiya and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in New Jersey. I have been working as an outpatient clinician in community mental health for the past four years and working in the field for the past 6 years. I have my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from New Jersey City University. I work with a variety of people from different communities who are looking to address their challenges at their own pace. My focus has been helping individuals find healthy ways to reconnect with themselves and their communities.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together I will introduce myself and ask how are you doing, right now in this moment. From there I will ask what brings you into therapy right now. Together we will create some goals and expectations for Therapy. And answer any questions you may have about myself or therapy, or different forms of treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

What helps me be great at the work I do as a Clinician is being able to bring in many different experiences I have gained to help others. Working in community mental health and other settings I have been able to gain tools and evidence based treatments to address a variety of challenges.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I find myself using CBT Therapy to help someone address negative thoughts, beliefs, and self-talk. Overall Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us understand the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. And we can use this method to break unwanted patterns.

Eclectic

The Eclectic approach means I can provide a variety of therapy approaches based on someone's needs and therapy goals. Throughout my experience I learned that what might work for one person, might not work for another. My goal is to meet someone where they are at and provide different tools and resources so that they can build Coping skills unique for their situation.

Psychoeducation

Whether you want to improve Coping skills, learn more about yourself, build self-esteem, build healthy relationships there's a worksheet for that! I can provide provide education through worksheets and other reading material for different topics someone would like to explore. I will also provide Feedback and discuss how it relates to your unique situation.

Motivational Interviewing

Lets talk about change. Love it, hate it, or anywhere in between change is something constant in our lives. With Motivational Interviewing we look at what barriers are holding you back from making the changes you want in your life, we identify what motivates you (or doesn't), and how to develop change talk to increase your motivation and empower yourself towards change.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness is the practice of staying in the present moment, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Through Mindfulness Based Therapy we will explore ways to develop routines, skills, and techniques that will help to disrupt unwanted patterns and behaviors. Some tools we will start off with will Deep Breathing, different forms of Meditation, Movement, and Body work.
