Hello to all! My name is Sharon Bowen. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) primarily working with older teens and adults via virtual/telehealth means. I completed my Masters in Social Work at UNC Chapel Hill in 2010. Since that time, I have been in a number of roles such as a case manager, an advocate, and a mental health therapist for folks of all ages. I have worked in private practice realms, a hospital, and community settings. My goal is to help you along this journey into healing. Whether it is your first time or you have seen others in the past, I want to meet you where you are in the therapeutic process so we can move forward together. I know that therapy can bring out all sorts of feelings so I strive to provide a safe and open environment built on mutual respect. I have experience working with a variety of mental health and life concerns but some of my primary areas of focus are around depression, anxiety, life transitions, sexuality, and trauma. I look forward to getting to know you soon!
In the first session, I want to know who you are. I don't want to spend the whole time focusing on the "problem" though that is important. I like to start with getting to know who you are and then moving from there.
I used a number of modalities and tools with clients and often mix methods. Everyone has different needs so I believe that I need a variety of approaches. Some of my experience includes the use of CBT, reality therapy, holistic means, trauma-focused, communication and interpersonal skills.
I feel like my biggest strength is my openness. I can work with anyone, no matter their demographic.
I don't have one ideal client. I have worked with a number of folks from all walks of life and with a variety of things going on ... I enjoy them all.
