Hi! My name is Heather Colquhoun (Cal-hoon). I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I have received my Master's and I am in the process of obtaining my Doctorate in Couple & Family Therapy in Sacramento. I embody a safe, empathic, and compassionate presence while walking alongside adolescents, adults, couples, and families during their journeys of self-discovery, empowerment, growth, and healing. I offer a humanistic, collaborative, and trauma-informed approach with humor on the side. I believe that you have the innate ability to heal, grow, and thrive. You are deserving of protection, consideration, and care. I look forward to have the opportunity to be a part of your healing journey with you while navigating new ways to create safety, stability, self-love, and wellness. It is time to put yourself first and create the life you love.
My goal as your therapist is to provide a safe place for you to explore your feelings and experiences that occur after/during life changes, may resurface past traumas, anxiety, depression, grief, and loss. You do not have to navigate these challenges alone. In and out of our sessions, I strive to provide unconditional positive regard, humor, warmth, respect, realness, empathy, and compassion.
My greatest strengths as a provider is my overall way of being. I offer encouragement to be authentically yourself, work along side you to achieve your goals, and will help you navigate your inner and outer worlds.
I operate from an Attachment-based approach to help build trusting and supporting relationships with my clients I serve.
I believe that individuals are unique, have the potential to grow, and improve their overall well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps individuals think about their thinking. What we think affects how we feel which ultimately affects how we behave. Learning about these elements can provide relief and increase one's ability to problem solve and adjust the way one thinks.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a modified version of CBT. DBT helps one learn to be in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stressors, regulates emotions, and improves relationships with others.
