My name is Sheika and I'm happy that you've made it this far. I'm here to be a sounding board, offer a fresh perspective, and provide non-intrusive techniques to improve your overall wellbeing. You are approached as an individual and the expert regarding your life. I'm simply here to assist along the way. You may be seeking therapy due to a major life event. Are you balancing parental, caregiver, relationship, or even familial stresses? You may simply want someone to listen without judgement while offering a voice of reason. I'm here to walk alongside you and to assist through whatever is causing discomfort at this time. With patience, consistency and, sometimes, just you showing up we will work toward you looking in the mirror with more confidence. It's not always a simple journey but I will be here to provide tools that will empower you in multiple areas of mental health, emotional and professional functioning.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first session with me, you can expect a welcoming, conversational environment that feels supportive and comfortable. Many clients mention that our work together doesn’t feel like "therapy" in the traditional sense; my approach is non-intrusive and focused on collaboration. From the start, I'll encourage you to bring a notebook dedicated to your therapy journey to jot down thoughts, reflections, and insights. This practice often proves to be a powerful tool for growth and self-discovery. Utilizing open-ended questions allows you to share your story at your own pace. These questions are designed to help me understand your background, experiences, and goals. Your perspective and self-defined progress are central to our work; I’m here to listen, support, and guide you, but you're always in the driver’s seat. As our sessions continue, clients who attend consistently, practice the tools we explore, and embrace honesty with themselves often find relief and a renewed sense of empowerment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I love what I do and was blessed to find my passion as a Social Worker. Clients that I've worked with have appreciated that I introduce non-intrusive techniques and that I do not judge where they are on their healing journey. I truly pride myself in meeting you where you are. It is not up to the therapist to make clients feel better but to provide gentle encouragement and to offer a fresh perspective. There will be "mirror holding moments" where I'll guide you through the difficulty, the honesty, and even painful experiences. By offering non-judgement and techniques that feel natural you will begin to notice an increase in your functioning, perspective, and coping as you experience life.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

My experience with Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) allows me to support clients by helping them understand the link between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, particularly how these factors influence day-to-day experiences and decision-making. Oftentimes client come to seeking relief from anxiety, depression, or the effects of complex trauma. CBT provides practical tools that are effective to manage these issues. CBT is applied in a client-centered and non-intrusive manner. I assist the clients to become aware of patterns of negative thinking or belief that may contribute to emotional distress. Using guided, conversational sessions, clients are encouraged to examine these thoughts and behaviors and learn techniques to challenge and reframe them in ways that feel genuine and empowering. Over time, clients often report increased emotional resilience and a more positive perspective, which ultimately enhances their ability to function and cope through challenges in life.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness as a core component of my therapeutic approach. Mindfulness help clients build awareness, manage stress, and cultivate a greater sense of presence. In utilizing Mindfulness-based techniques, I'm able to assist clients to connect with and observe experiences, recognizing how thoughts and emotions impact well-being, and developing healthier responses to stressors. In utilizing techniques of mindfulness, client's often report increased resilience and self-awareness which empowers them to navigate challenges with clarity and calm.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is used to support clients in identifying and reaching personal goals. My experience with MI has shown that, when applied properly, it's effective in helping clients navigate ambivalence, clarify motivations, and make meaningful changes in their lives. I begin by exploring a client’s goals, values, and potential areas of resistance, without pressure or judgment. Next, we move toward articulating personal desires for change, identify barriers, and explore the small steps to move toward progress. MI allows clients to feel understood, empowered, and ready to take meaningful, and sustainable, steps toward change at their own pace.
