Hi! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Georgia. I have a Master's in Community Counseling and returned later to obtain another Master's/Certification in School Counseling. I have worked for many years, starting my career with Children and Adolescents in Community Mental Health. I moved forward spending many years with Developmental Disabilities/Babies Can't Wait, and Autism. From here I became a Middle School Counselor for several years and Community Counselor. I have remained in the community since.
In our first session, we will spend a little time getting to know each other. Please use this time to ask me any questions you may have about myself or initial concerns. We will then begin to discuss needs and goals you may have for yourself and have brought you to a therapist. We hope to bring our session to an end with an idea of a plan for some goals for our future sessions.
I have worked with a variety of people and ages through past years. I believe that I have been able to assist most of my clients to find the ability to identify an acceptable resolution to the problem initially identified or determined as therapy progresses.
I have been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for quite a few years. I find this a positive way to assist clients in working through and challenging negative and repetitive thinking patterns that effect our anxiety and depression. CBT will assist you to see how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors work together. Together we will find ways to cope with stressful feelings as we work to find a way to a more positive thinking pattern to reach your attainable goals.
I have used Reality Therapy for much of my practice if my client and their particular issue lends itself to this. We will focus our time on what is going on with you now. Our goal is to work toward a solution to your identified problem. Let's determine how to get your needs met in the most positive way. Are there positive contributions you can make to help improve your relationships with others and what are they? What are your needs and how can you make better choices to meet those needs? Let's find answers together.
I have always used Relational Therapy while working with my clients. Our life is affected by the variety of relationships in our life. We are engaged in some type of relationship, such as personal, social, work, and friends. We may want to reduce conflict or stress in the relationship or find an improved way of communication. We can use Relational Therapy to examine how you want to grow, change, and move forward. This may include a parent/child relationship, husband/wife relationship, or relationships with our peers. I have seen this throughout the many therapeutic relationships I have had whether it was the sole focus of our therapy or not. I have spent a lot of time with adolescents who often find themselves trying to figure out "why don't my friends like me," "why did my boyfriend break up with me," and "why won't my parent's let me...".
