Hi, my name is Tamara and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Indiana. I am a graduate of Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan with 10 years of experience in this field. My specialty field is crisis and trauma and I deem it a privilege to journey with individuals who are experiencing challenging times.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, you can expect a non-judgmental space where you can openly share what has been on your heart. My main goal during this session would be to start the process of getting to know you and building that therapeutic relationship. You can also expect to share and discuss your goals for therapy with me so that I can begin tailoring a therapeutic plan just for you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is my ability to sit with and provide support for individuals during the most difficult times of their lives. I am a firm believer in meeting people with compassion exactly where they are and I strive to do this daily. I am by no means a "fixer", however I am a firm believer that no situation is ever too hopeless and I am fully committed to taking this journey with you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Our reactions to the happenings in our lives can sometimes leave us spinning in endless cycles of destructive thought and behavioral patterns. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy emphasizes the power of the mind as it relates to healing and puts you back in the driver seat of your life. It also allows me to journey with you as you begin to examine and change those faulty thought patterns. Throughout my years of practice I have utilized this approach to empower clients to break cycles of self-sabotage and to be the agent of change in their lives.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

The person-centered approach is the hallmark of my theoretical orientation. I use it in my practice to compassionately journey with my clients through their process of self-discovery. This approach enables me to fully see and hear my client no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have shared.

Trauma Informed Care

Have you ever heard someone say "I shouldn't still be feeling this way?" or "I should have gotten over this by now." Trauma Informed Care responds by simply asking "Says who?". We all experience life so differently, therefore your response to trauma will differ from my response to trauma, likewise your needs and challenges will differ from mine. Trauma Informed Care enables me to take a tailormade approach to therapy when working with someone who has experienced a traumatic event. There is no one-size fits all approach, instead I take into account what you have been through and allow it to inform my interactions and treatment interventions so as to create a safe space and avoid re-traumatization. I also hold the Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) certification, with 8 years of experience working directly with individuals who have experienced various forms of trauma.
