I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, trained in systems theory, and work to incorporate as many aspects of my client's system into therapy as possible. I work primarily from an MRI perspective, seeking out patterns of interactions in client relations which result in problems, and working to change those patterns of behavior for their benefit. I believe in working collaboratively with my clients to create change where they want change to occur. Licensed in Georgia and Florida. For more information, go to www.kristigodwin.com.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I will be gathering information about them and their goals for therapy in order to make a treatment plan of how to help them reach their goals as efficiently as possible. I use this time to get to know them, and to build rapport with them. When time allows, I do also review and educate them on DBT coping skills to help them stay regulated until we are able to do the deeper work required.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my clients largely feel validated, supported, and encouraged by their sessions with me. I often hear that they feel "lighter," or "more at peace," particularly following work on their deeper issues. I work to identify roots underneath presenting symptoms for full healing of unresolved issues for lasting improvement of anxiety, triggering, flashbacks, or negative core beliefs, for example. My goal is always that they will experience noticeable personal growth and healing.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I am trained and certified in Trauma-Informed Care, and work diligently to create and foster a safe environment for healing in the work I do. I use a foundation of DBT to teach self-regulation skills, IFS to help increase self-awareness and manage dissociation as needed, and then EMDR to work to heal and resolve the core root issues and faulty beliefs often developed through traumatic experiences.
