Hello! My name is Ashley Harlan and I am a licensed professional counselor and certified advanced alcohol and drug counselor who specializes in working with adolescents and young adults who have experienced trauma, substance use, life stressors and transitions, depression, and anxiety. I received a Master of Science of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Duquesne University in 2017. Since then, I have worked in both residential and outpatient settings, conducting individual, group, and family therapy sessions. I have previously served as the Clinical Supervisor for an inpatient rehab for adolescents. Additionally, I am adjunct faculty for two online colleges, teaching psychology-related topics.
I use a person-centered approach in my practice, meaning I tailor my approach to each individual client's needs and goals. My aim is to create a safe and comfortable space for my clients to utilize in whichever way they wish. I love incorporating humor into the therapy space and pride myself as being non-judgmental and open-minded. I am also LGBTQIA+ affirmative. Lastly, I have a great love for cats, enjoy playing games of all sorts, engaging with different parts of pop culture, and spending quality time with my friends and family.
I utilize a variety of treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Motivational Interviewing.
I have gained extensive education and experience in treating adjudicated and dependent adolescents who struggle with substance use and mental health related concerns. I have also found a passion for working with young adults who wish to improve boundaries and build self-esteem.
