Welcome, for the past 15 years I have supported clients with processing through difficult beliefs and emotions associated with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, childhood complex trauma, adult traumatic experiences, self-esteem issues, grief and loss of persons or pets as well as many other concerns. I have supported clients with gaining insight into themselves and their circumstances/life events as to gain perspective, heal and live life more settled and balanced. I value using a variety of therapy modalities, such as Psychodynamic, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral (DBT), Compassion Based Therapy, Mindfulness and Somatic Therapies. I also come from a personal background of trauma and loss, which has informed my work as a therapist. I have gained first hand experience of how transformation and healing can happen with the right supports and guidance. I hope to bring both my academic understandings and learnings as well as real life experience to our work together to enable you to learn, grow and thrive in the ways you are hoping for.
In our first session we will explore what your concerns, hopes and goals for therapy are as well as collaborate on a treatment plan to support you with beginning to progress towards your goals. We will also look at what treatment modalities might be helpful to align with your goals and aspirations as well as go over any questions or concerns you may have regarding therapy.
I view therapy as a collaborative process where the client has many internal resources that they may not have connected with yet. My role is to provide guidance, support and care with creating a welcoming and warm space to allow clients to be who they are as they are. When this is possible, with support, clients can oftentimes meet and turn towards what feels intolerable or difficult with curiosity and care. This I have learned can create a reconnecting to the self, healing and transformation.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is often very useful to aid with cognitive and somatic processing of trauma or generalized concerns/fears. EMDR therapy supports with creating internal resourcing, gaining insight into the self as well as processing somatically as the body often holds difficult experiences via the mind, emotions and body.
CBT therapy supports with gaining insight into underlying thoughts and emotions that may be influencing self-image, anxiety, depression and many other concerns. Insight aids with inner knowledge which helps with making positive changes.
DBT has 4 different modalities (distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness and emotional regulation) that are often useful with providing knowledge, coping skills and emotional regulation skills that can create a sense of balance and empowerment.
