Hello! And thank you for considering me to be your partner on your journey to wholeness and improvement. Congratulations on taking that pivotal first step to reach out for help. My name is Marisa Montes and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have extensive experience in helping people who are at a crossroads and unsure of what their next steps will be. Many of those I have successfully worked with have gone through experiences that have marked them and left them reeling. In my practice, I use a variety of evidence based therapeutic techniques to equip clients to live life successfully and confront their challenges head on.
In a first session, I want to get to know you. I want to know what important experiences your have lived in your life that brought our paths to cross today. I approach my clients with compassion and open-mindedness and want to establish a warm environment where you feel open to trusting me with your vulnerabilities. I will ask some tough questions, but hope that you find me an empathetic and trusted person in whom to confide. By the end of the first session, I want for us to establish a plan of action to help you feel empowered to making changes starting on day one. We will develop goals together and discuss how we will follow up on the goals of this action plan during our follow up sessions.
Clients report feeling compassion and empathy from me when working together. They also admit that my approach includes challenging their perceptions and behaviors to help them uncover self-imposed barriers that are not serving them. My aim is to develop practical strategies with clients that will help them feel better and achieve their goals.
For the past five years, I have successfully used CBT to help clients identify and stop problematic behaviors and thinking patterns. Clients utilize the techniques learned in session and through homework activities to regain a sense of control in their lives and an increase in hopefulness.
For over three years, I have been focused on using grief therapy techniques to help clients heal from loss. Post-pandemic, individuals have been grieving the loss of loved ones, but also the loss of lifestyles and relationships that defined them. My goal is to walk alongside clients to empower them to reach a point of reconciliation, where hope and the spectrum of life's experiences can again be embraced.
Over the past five years, through different treatment modalities, I continue to embrace mindfulness based therapy techniques. Using mindfulness helps ground clients when confronted with discomfort of change.
