Even though you may be struggling with something right now, you can choose to: see it in a new way... feel differently about it... be open to change... and ultimately, transform. Everything you need is already within you. My role is to help you access it, and use it. I bring curiosity, empathy, and evidence-based therapies -- usually leading with energy psychology/EFT/clinical tapping and ACT/acceptance and commitment therapy, and spiraling out from there as your story leads us. You bring openness, willingness to practice, and neuroplasticity, and you can change -- literally re-wire -- your brain. When you do, you'll be amazed at the cascade of positive changes this creates... not only within you, but all around you in your life. I'm a licensed mental health professional (LCSW-C) in Maryland and have experience as a social worker and therapist working with children and adults of all ages and backgrounds, providing individual and family therapy in a variety of settings (community mental health agency, schools, inpatient and outpatient healthcare). I learn something valuable from each client with whom I'm privileged to work, and deeply appreciate the insights I gain through our work together. It is hard to be vulnerable in therapy. While I don't know your story and your journey (yet), I do know that if you are considering therapy, you are already doing the hard work of introspection. It takes courage to seek out more for yourself. You already have my respect and my empathy, and I would love to be part of your journey of healing and discovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll set the stage for getting to know each other by reviewing practice policies like confidentiality and other logistics. We'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy at this time in your life, and add some detail to the responses you provided to the intake/history questionnaire(s) that you will have already completed. You'll have the chance to ask me questions about my background, my training, and my style. We'll have a pretty organic conversation where I'll ask you questions so that I can be sure that I'm clear about the specific challenges you're facing and what you want to accomplish in our time together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am passionate about helping you both understand yourself more deeply and have compassion for yourself. In this process of discovery, we will take turns both leading and following, and we will both be learning.

My treatment methods

Mind-body approach

One mind-body approach that I find clients enthusiastically responding to is variously called energy psychology/EFT/clinical tapping. It is a psychophysiological technique that has been shown in hundreds of clinical trials to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, pain, trauma, and host of other concerns by combining ideas from cognitive behavior therapy, prolonged exposure therapy, and neurolinguistic programming, while tapping on acupressure points in the body. A study published in 2023 identified a new structure in the body, called the primo vascular system, which physically connects the acupressure points to the brain (specifically the amygdala and the hippocampus), supporting the re-processing of memories during an EFT session. Other mind-body techniques that I also like to explore with clients include neurodynamic breathwork, meditation/mindfulness-based stress reduction, energy work, and sometimes even self-hypnosis. I use these mind-body approaches in combination with talk therapies, always in service of helping you reach your treatment goals.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I resonate with ACT, and I hope you will too, because it is based on the fundamental premise that pain, grief, disappointment, illness, and anxiety are inevitable features of human life. And in ACT, our goal is to **adapt** to these types of challenges by developing greater psychological flexibility, rather than engaging in counterproductive attempts to eliminate or suppress undesirable experiences. I find that, once they have learned them, clients often instinctively return to the key ideas in ACT, because of their simplicity and effectiveness.
