Welcome! I'm a Nationally Certified and Licensed Professional Counsellor (LPC) based in Michigan. I received a Masters of Science in Counseling from the University of Phoenix and have been providing therapy for 10 years. I am also a certified trauma specialist. I am skilled at helping young adults and adults who want support in managing anxiety, depression and trauma and many other life challenges.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then I will explore your history of the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
My aim is to work with you to create a plan to help you achieve your mental health goals, so that you can experience a greater sense of well-being and fulfillment. To this end, I offer a non-judgmental and safe space where you can find solutions, learn, and grow as you work towards reaching these goals. Ten years of working with a myriad of clients with various needs. My client's expressed that I am supportive, empathetic while helping to keep them focused on their goals.
This approach helps individuals identify and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. In therapy, the focus is on recognizing unhelpful thoughts, reframing them in a more balanced way, and learning practical coping skills to change behavior. By addressing both thoughts and actions, CBT empowers clients to develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and responding to life’s challenges. CBT is a powerful empowering approach. Client's express that they learn skills that are effective and can be used over and over.
Trauma-focused Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) helps you process and make sense of past traumatic experiences. In therapy, you identify and challenge any unhelpful thoughts or beliefs related to the trauma, like feelings of guilt, shame, or fear. By examining how these thoughts affect emotions and behaviors, experiences can be reframed to reduce distress and regain a sense of control and safety. CPT is a structured approach that helps integrate the trauma into a more balanced understanding of the world around.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a counseling approach that focuses on helping people find their own motivation to change by exploring their mixed feelings about the change. In MI, the therapist listens carefully, asks open-ended questions, and reflects the client’s thoughts to help them discover their own reasons for making changes, rather than telling them what to do. MI recognizes that clients may feel unsure or conflicted about change and works to strengthen their commitment by exploring their values and goals. It’s especially useful when clients are resistant or uncertain about making changes, such as with addiction or health-related behaviors. Clients appreciate this approach because of the exploration of their feelings that might keep them from reaching their goals.
A strength-based approach is a way of working that focuses on a person's strengths and abilities, rather than their deficits. It's based on the idea that people are capable of growth and change, and that their strengths can be used to address challenges. Most people find this approach empowering.
The Eclectic approach can be very effective, because client's get the benefit of many approaches that can help them reach their therapeutic goals. This approach includes solution focused (SF), Person Centered, DBT, CBT, MI, Psychoeducation and other approaches.
