I am a mental Health Counselor with 20 years of experience in working with people of all ages in many different circumstances. I have experience working with the child welfare systems, court advocacy, foster care, adoptions, children experiencing traumas, substance use and parenting, motivational interviewing, and helping those that are struggling with life circumstances that are wanting to improve their functioning.
One of the most important aspects of a good therapeutic relationships is trust and alignment. Initial sessions focus on what you want to gain from our time together, how I can be of assistance, and getting to know and understand the purpose of you seeking help.

When someone is struggling and seeking help, this comes from a break down in their ability to manage the situation and cope with what is happening. Together, we find their strengths, motivations, and abilities, and capitalize on those strengths to overcome difficulty situations.
Utilized with clients of most ages to explore thought patterns about topics that they are struggling with, their current responses and how to positive affect their thoughts patterns to gain diffident results. Assist clients in understanding the connection between their thoughts and feelings, and behaviors and how they have the power to alter them to improve their ability to overcome a situation and lead towards overall improve functioning.
In-depth training in motivational interviewing and supervising others in this modality to align with clients in what they wish to change, assist them in exploring motivations, and understanding their power and ability to make desired changes.
I have many years of experience working with young children, children who have experienced trauma, and children in high-risk situations. I spent many years working with children who have been removed, are a threat for removal, and who are in foster care and adoptive placements. Play therapy lends the child the opportunity to explore their thoughts and feeling in a safe way, through their play. Children show others how they perceive their treatment by others, how they feel in different situations, and can work to resolve conflicts through their play.
Psycho education is utilized to provide information about different things to assist clients in understanding and processing different situation, diagnosis, coping skills, communication skills, etc. in order to assist them in improving their knowledge about skills and ways to implement them in their lives to improve current functioning.
