Hi! My name is Rosario Aceves. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is excited at the opportunity God has given me to help you through Grow Therapy. I have over 8 years of experience working with teens, adults, and the elderly. As Director of Social Services in a nursing and rehabilitation center I dealt with issues around anxiety, depression, grief, family conflict, care planning, end of life issues, counseling clients to better manage, often times very complex health conditions, provided resources and more. As an Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician at a non-profit clinic I provided individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, parenting support, grief and loss, mental health concerns and substance use. I worked closely with, and provided consultation to medical providers and the medical care team to provide holistic and comprehensive care. Due to the pandemic opportunities to provide individual therapy via telehealth has been transformative to both my clients and I. When I'm not working I love spending time alone with God, my husband of 14 years, my four wonderful daughters, family and friends. I have been primarily homeschooling my girls and managing my home to the best of my ability. Being in nature, especially by the ocean or river, drawing, painting, journaling, hiking, playing a sport like soccer, volleyball, basketball, and tennis are things that refuel me.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I will spend time getting to know you and all the different aspects of your life. We will explore what has brought you to therapy at this time and what you hope to get out of therapy. We will also discuss your needs and challenges that may be present and go over goals, expectations, and treatment plan.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

God has given me the gift to empathetically listen to those in need with patience and love. Because of this amazing gift, my clients feel heard, understood, and respected. I have been able to effectively help my clients overcome many of their challenges and reach their unique goals because of the joy, hope, and peace they experience from coming to therapy.

My treatment methods

Faith based therapy

I respectfully integrate psychological principles with the client's spiritual beliefs and practices to provide a holistic approach to mental health that addresses the emotional, mental, and spiritual needs of that individual. Through prayer, meditation, and scripture reading, alongside traditional therapeutic techniques my clients have found profound comfort, strength, and hope through integrating their faith into therapy to cope with life transitions, build self-esteem, and manage stress. This mode of treatment can be adapted to suit individuals from various spiritual backgrounds. I'm open to working with clients wherever they are on their spiritual journey.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

This structured, time-limited, and goal oriented form of psychotherapy focuses on relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I start by assessing my clients problematic thought patterns and behaviors using tools like thought records or journals. Next, I educate clients about the CBT model helping them understand the connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Then, we discuss techniques such as cognitive restructuring (challenging and changing negative thoughts), behavioral experiments (testing the validity of thoughts through real-world tasks), and exposure therapy (gradual exposure to feared situations to reduce anxiety). Homework with this kind of therapy is to be expected and is pivotal. I adapt these techniques to meet the unique needs of each client, integrating their strengths, preferences, and cultural background in the the therapeutic process.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that is widely used to treat clients struggling with emotional dysregulation. DBT combines mindfulness practices while focusing on balancing acceptance and change. I incorporate the four main components 1) Mindfulness: teaching clients to focus on the present moment and develop a non-judgmental awareness of their thoughts and feelings. 2) Distress tolerance: help clients build skills to tolerate and survive crises without engaging in harmful behaviors. 3) Emotion regulation: guiding clients in understanding and managing their emotions to reduce emotional vulnerability. 4) Interpersonal effectiveness: Training clients in skills to assertively express their needs and manage conflicts in relationships. You can also expect homework with this form of treatment as it is crucial to the therapeutic process. This process is tailored uniquely as I consider all the factors important to the client.

Motivational Interviewing

This method of treatment is a client-centered, directive method of counseling that enhances motivation for change by helping clients explore and resolve ambivalence. It's particularly effective in helping clients make decisions about behavioral changes especially when they demonstrate resistance to changing problematic behaviors. I create a safe space where clients can feel safe, understood, and respected. I help clients recognize the gap between their current behavior(s) and their broader life goals or values, which can enhance their motivation to change. I help client explore and validate their resistance to change, guiding them to discover their own reasons for making changes. I empower clients by emphasizing their ability to make positive changes and encouraging them to believe in their capacity to do so.

Interpersonal

IPT is a time-limited structured therapy that focuses on improving interpersonal relationships and social functioning to help reduce psychological symptoms like depression. I work with clients on resolving ongoing conflicts with significant others, family members, or friends that are contributing to their mental health issues. I assess the client's current relationships to identify problematic patterns or conflicts that might be contributing to their symptoms.
