I have a MEd and PhD in counseling and educational psychology with numerous years of experience in education and mental health. I provide individual, couples and family counseling. I provide person centered counseling which means we work together to help you reach your goals in counseling. The goals are created by you with my assistance. I will provide education on possible paths to reach your goals and provide projected outcomes that may be in line with your desired outcomes. We will discover many of the thoughts behind behaviors and actions and possible different thinking patterns to sustain changed behaviors.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

On the first session there will be introductions and opportunity to ask questions of the counselor. The client will get an opportunity to share more details of the reasons for the counseling sessions and help to isolate specific goals to be accomplished. The counselor will listen intently and make sure the client is feeling heard and seen and their goals for counseling will be addressed.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a active listener and make sure that I understand the clients concerns and culture. I at times have clients who are first generational American. I want to make sure that I understand the culture of the family and how the family culture is operational in the clients values and goals in their life and future goals.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is evidenced based for treatment for depression and anxiety. The sessions will helps you take a close look at your thoughts (cognitions), emotions/feelings and actions (behaviors). You'll come to understand how your thoughts which are based on your feelings and beliefs affect your actions (behaviors). Through CBT, you can unlearn negative thoughts and behaviors and learn to adopt healthier thinking patterns and habits.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people recover from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related conditions. Its goal is to help people process traumatic events while challenging and changing unhelpful thoughts. Trauma is an experience that overwhelms your ability to cope. It's a manualized therapy lasted between 12-18 sessions that's based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), one of the most widely used evidence-based therapies.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people process traumatic memories and other distressing experience. During EMDR, you focus on a trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, usually eye movements. The goal is to change the way the memory is stored in the brain. EMDR can help reduce the vividness and emotion associated with trauma memories. It can also help replace negative thoughts with more positive ones. EMDR is primarily used to treat posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it can also be used to treat other psychological challenges, such as panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety.
