Hello! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in New York. I received my Masters from Fordham University, and postgraduate training in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) from the Albert Ellis Institute. I have been practicing as a therapist for 8 years. I help clients problem solve and reach their goals through emotional change, which is done via cognitive change.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is a bit different than consecutive sessions in that we gather a "problem list" of things that you want to work on in consecutive sessions. We will also spend some time talking about your family history and background, including any significant events. This can be helpful in understanding your current challenges as most of us are affected by our past. From an REBT perspective, our current problems are influenced by the past in that we continue to rehearse and believe in previously learned (false) believes; thereby perpetuating the problematic cycle. As clients become aware of their present and historically held beliefs, they often come to recognize that these beliefs were not true back then, and they are also not true today. This process can be both healing and helpful in moving forward. In consecutive sessions, we will use the "problem list" we established in the first session as a roadmap and begin to chip away by working on one problem at the time. The list is not set in stone and may be modified or changed at any time. We always keep you and your priorities at the forefront and we'll be flexible and pivot based on where you're at on your journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My background and training in theatre and meditation provides the transferrable skills of easily attuning with clients, and effortlessly recalling and drawing on historic shared details as it relates to clients' new problem areas. My passion for philosophy has also been very useful as the therapeutic approach I use largely is based on Stoic, Roman and Eastern philosophy.

My treatment methods

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

I've received extensive training in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and been practicing REBT for five years. REBT falls under the umbrella of CBT. In a typical session you will identify a problem you want to work, and a goal you want to work towards. I will then ask you questions to help identify what gets in the way of you reaching your goal. Through this process, I will help you identify any unhealthy negative emotions such as anxiety, depression, shame, guilt, or anger that may get in the way of problem solving and reaching your goal. We will then form an alliance and help you to change this unhelpful emotion. We do that by first identifying what thoughts you have that influences the unhealthy emotion. We will then begin to challenge these beliefs to see if they are realistic and helpful (we usually find they are not). Next, we will help you to change these unrealistic and unhelpful beliefs to realistic and helpful beliefs, which process will lead to an emotional change. Most clients find this approach to be empowering in that they learn to take charge of their emotions as opposed to their emotions controlling them. An important part of this approach is to practice and rehearse the new rational beliefs, which will take some effort and time, similarly to anything else you are trying to learn, whether it be a new sport or a new skillset at work.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I’ve been practicing REBT/CBT for the past five years. This approach has helped the majority of my clients to get better.
