I am a clinical psychologist with 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families/parenting styles. My philosophy as a psychologist is centered around the encouragement of trusting your personal knowledge as a base for layering on new coping skills, self-understanding, and ultimately growth as an individual. I want my clients to know that they are in a safe space for sharing, asking questions, and receiving helpful feedback that fits their specific personal needs. I use a variety of psychology treatment skills to fit the personal style of the client.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then discuss the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I focus on meeting the needs of the client, which change throughout therapy together. At times there is the need for an emotionally safe place, but ultimately, we work together to have a plan for coping with their anxieties, depression, work relationships, couple relationships, or specific skill sets for specific problems which change over time (example: parenting skills for the changing ages of their children)
This is a basis of understanding the connection of how emotions and thoughts are interrelated in a cause/effect response
This is based on a focus on the positives of the relationship and also how to communicate and plan together to problem solve without having win/lose or right/wrong problem solving
It is helpful to look at a child/parent interaction from the perspective of the child's age, neurodevelopmental stage, emotional needs, and the parenting styles of both parents. I give the parents support, guidance and information to gain confidence in their parenting and how it affects the relationship between the parents.
