I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have 11+ years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in different therapeutic settings who have various diagnoses and come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. I provide individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. I am also a certified life coach and I find great joy in working collaboratively with my clients and their families.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Depending on the age of the client the first session varies. Youth and adolescent sessions will begin with introductions followed by my making sure that the client understands what therapy is. I will then discuss general information about the flow of therapy as well as confidentiality limitations (Making sure they know when I have to tell their parents or another adult things they share with me). Following this I will ask the client what they would like help with and then proceed to ask personal general questions about the clients likes, dislikes, dreams, video games, movies, tv shows etc. to begin building a rapport with the client. This usually helps the client feel more comfortable and gives me and the client a chance to acknowledge likes and dislikes that we might have in common. As an example I play video games and can chat with younger clients about different video games. For adult clients I will generally begin with introductions and general information about the therapeutic process. This will be followed by a mental health assessment which will ask specific questions regarding their reason for seeking therapy as well as gathering information about family history, education, interpersonal relationships and past traumas that may be currently affecting their mental health. I do not push any client, no matter the age, to divulge stressful information during the first session. If a client has a difficult time divulging stressful information this will be done over several sessions after preparing the client ahead of time.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist I individualize every treatment plan. I tailor sessions, treatment plans, and interventions to each client based off of their needs and personality. Everything I do when working with clients is truly based on that particular client. I make a point to really get to know and understand my clients as best as possible and I will never judge a client based on their past or present behaviors or their level of understanding. I make each person a part of their treatment process and give them a voice in the way I implement interventions. I thoughtfully and appropriately encourage and push clients in a way that will not be scary or overbearing when trying to complete a goal. My primary focus is always to help guide people towards their best self and I will not stop trying to think of interventions or ideas to help my clients. I will keep trying and working with the client until we find the coping skill, intervention, behavior, or thought process that helps!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been utilizing CBT for 11+ years and find that it is the most helpful when dealing with an array of interpersonal and relationship issues. CBT teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. It focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions.

Family Therapy

Familial relationships can be very challenging to navigate. Sometimes the hardest people to communicate with are the people we love the most. Family therapy can assist you and your family in recognizing issues, increasing healthy communication and gaining a better understanding of one another. My approach takes time to get to know all parties individually before delving into combined family therapy. This helps me gain insight into each persons, thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and behaviors, helping to create a safe space where all parties feel equally heard and understood by the therapist. Additionally this helps me assist each person in finding their voice within the relationship.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is used often in my treatment of clients as I believe it is important, no matter what age, to understand what is going on with the person mentally and emotionally. I will give each client information, verbally or written, to make sure they understand their presenting problems and the way in which those problems are affecting their emotional and mental health, relationships, etc.

Trauma-Focused CBT

A lot of my experience working with clients, youth and adults, center around some kind of trauma they have experienced. I have been trained in trauma focused therapy and am particularly sensitive to the unique problems of clients with post-traumatic stress and mood disorders resulting from sexual abuse, physical abuse, violence, or grief.
