Being rooted in traditionalism, with exposure to the modern, has allowed me to be open to learning about life in new, non-traditional ways. My open mindedness later in life helped me to embrace the process of learning and to be more comfortable with the journey of shifts and transitions that we all go through in life. Through this process I have sought and embraced new paths, which allows me to connect with both young people and adults. I am a licensed clinical social worker with 25 years’ experience supporting, empowering, and teaching both children and adults.
Our initial meeting is an opportunity for us to connect, establish a comfortable and confidential space, and begin our therapeutic journey together. We'll start with a brief overview of your concerns, goals and reasons for seeking therapy. I'll ask questions to understand your background, experiences and expectations. Together, we will identify primary objectives and establish a foundation for our work. I'll introduce my approach, addressing any questions or concerns. Finally, we'll discuss scheduling, communication, and what to expect moving forward.
Throughout the years I became skilled at helping individuals to understand the triggers to their feelings of discomfort and develop skills to manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, and grow in understanding of trauma responses. I have also helped families and couples come together and grow in understanding, communication, and conflict resolution.
In my practice, I employ Person-Centered Therapy by prioritizing empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard to foster a supportive and empowering therapeutic environment. By integrating Person-Centered Therapy into my practice, I create a safe, supportive space for clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, promoting self-discovery, growth, and well-being.
I utilize CBT by focusing on the interconnectedness of thoughts, feelings and behaviors to empower individuals with effective coping strategies and improved emotional regulation. By integrating CBT, I help clients identify distorted thinking patterns, develop coping strategies, improve emotional regulation and enhance overall well-being.
In my practice, I utilize CPT for PTSD and related trauma symptoms by focusing on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and emotions associated with traumatic experiences. By integrating CPT, I help clients process traumatic experiences, challenge negative thought patterns, develop coping strategies, enhance emotional regulation and improve overall well-being. I have received specialized training and supervision in Cognitive Processing Therapy.
When working with couples, I employ the Gottman Method, a research-based approach to couples therapy, by emphasizing building and maintaining healthy relationships through effective communication, intimacy, and conflict resolution. By utilizing the Gottman Method, I help couples strengthen their relationship foundation, develop effective communication, enhance emotional intimacy, manage conflicts constructively, and build fulfilling connections.
