My goal is to help people not just get through life, but truly thrive. While I do work with individuals who have experienced long-term mental health challenges, most of the people I see are high-functioning but feel stressed, disconnected, or stuck. With a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality and experience as a clinical sexologist, I understand how vital it is to love ourselves and others openly and honestly. By fostering this kind of self-acceptance and connection, we can greatly improve our overall well-being. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and am Board Certified in Art Therapy. Whether you’re facing trauma, relationship struggles, or navigating identity issues, I see your strength in coming forward. I work with individuals who are not just seeking to manage their challenges but are ready to explore themselves on a deeper level.
In our first session, we’ll begin by exploring your goals, concerns, and what brought you to therapy. This is a chance for us to get to know each other and for me to understand how I can best support you. I see therapy as a partnership, where open communication and trust are key. I’ll share my thoughts and approaches based on what you express, but I also encourage you to be an active participant in the process. By being honest about your needs, feelings, and experiences, we can work more effectively together to help you reach your goals. Everyone is unique in how they discover the best way to use the session as opening up and being honest and trusting is different for each individual. I understand how difficult this can be and when you talk about yourself - dreams, fears, questions, concerns, insecurities- I treat each part you share as a gift.
I am open minded, compassionate, creative, and while I have solid clinical and academic education and years of experience in a multitude of settings with a variety of patient populations. I came into this field as an artist. My initial training was in art therapy. I was fascinated about learning about and helping others and approach therapy in a creative manner, using a variety of approaches to help paint a beautiful and satisfying picture of your life. I understand what it is like to create your own path and my greatest joy is to help others find their way. When I first worked with clients, questions, problems, lack of satisfaction, fear of true intimacy and the topic of sex was often an underlying problem or concern. As a Master level clinician, I lacked the expertise to provide answers and counseling when it came to sex so I got more education and training, including a PhD in Human Sexuality. From artist to sexologist, you never know where your path will lead you. I am honored to be on that path with you. My approach to therapy is collaborative and flexible, tailored to your unique needs. I believe that therapy is a partnership, and I work alongside you to help you find the solutions that resonate with your life. Together, we can explore what works best, drawing from a variety of therapeutic techniques based on your goals and challenges. Throughout our work, I aim to create a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings. However, I am also direct when needed. If I notice a pattern or behavior that might be worth examining, I will bring it up in a respectful but straightforward manner. My goal is to help you gain clarity and insight, even if that means having difficult conversations that challenge you to grow.
With a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality, I bring extensive experience in helping individuals and couples navigate intimacy, sexual concerns, and relationship challenges. I create a welcoming, non-judgmental space where you can explore issues like sexual and gender identity, desire, and emotional or physical barriers to intimacy. My goal is to help you build healthier, more fulfilling connections with yourself and others through open communication and personalized strategies.
Using CBT, I help clients identify and reframe negative thought patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, or emotional challenges. Together, we’ll develop practical tools and strategies to shift these patterns and build healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. As you work through this process, you’ll become more self-aware and aligned with your authentic self, giving you the confidence to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease and clarity.
My first internship was at a psychiatric hospital where I was taught psychoanalytic theory, the foundation of psychology. This on-site training provides me with the clinical expertise to work from a psychodynamic perspective when deeper exploration is needed. This method allows us to delve into past experiences and unconscious patterns that may be influencing your present behavior. For issues like trauma, sexual abuse, or addiction, this approach can lead to valuable insights and long-term healing by understanding how your past influences your current challenges. Once you have that awareness, you have the power to now choose different ways of responding.
