My name is Heidi Overbey, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with 10+ years of experience. I graduated with my master's from Brandman University in Southern California. I work on listening to my clients to make them feel heard. I want to help them understand their current struggles, issues and behaviors. I want to walk a path with them and help them to identify current behaviors, thoughts, relationship or other stressors that may be currently impacting their mental health. I want to work as hard as my clients do to get back on track.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, I want to learn about you, what made you reach out, where do you want to be. I want to take this time with you to develop goals/plans with you to get you to where you want to be. I want to share with you what therapy can do and of course doesn't do. I want you to feel welcome and understood. Let's make a plan to feel better.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Over my career, I have worked with diverse populations from all walks of life. I have worked with those that suffer with substance use/addiction issues, adults with general anxiety, depression and self-esteems issues, to mature adults struggling with lifelong trauma and stress to death and dying. I feel that I am able to make a connection with my clients which I feel is one of the most important parts of being a therapist. I also feel that one of my strengths is that I am super interested in learning about people, I enjoy listening and providing feedback and guidance. I also enjoy learning about other cultures and belief systems.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I am able to use several different therapeutic modalities. I have continued to add new modalities over the last 10+ years. I feel that using multiple modalities assists me in being able to meet clients where they are at and really individualize treatment plans to best meet his or her needs. I am able to use CBT, some DBT skill building, mindful based approaches, emotion focused, family systems, and more. I want to try and find what best fits my client, because we are all not cookie cutter humans.
