Hi! My name Katelyn Strand. I earned my Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University and have 4 years of experience providing therapy to clients recovering from trauma and abuse, healing from depression and anxiety, and wanting to increase their skills use. I earned my Bachelor's in Education and worked for a couple years in the special education setting of a middle school. I love utilizing my education background with clients to teach new skills and support families as they navigate the education system as well. Currently, I only offer telehealth appointments from anywhere in Ohio. It appears that my total availability is not loading with the online scheduling tool, feel free to reach out by text if you are interested in scheduling an appointment and don't see a time that works for you. I can be reached at 614-285-4827. I am honored you would consider me for your therapy!
In our first session together, I will gather information about your current symptoms and challenges you are facing. I will ask about your goals for therapy and why you are interested in services at this time. I will also want to understand about your childhood, family history, work and education history, and other barriers and challenges you have faced. Understanding more about your history and what has led you to therapy will help me understand the goals and path forward for you.
I use a calm and empathetic approach to ensure that clients feel heard and understood and also validated in their experiences. By listening intently and providing care and support, I am also able to gently challenge clients where needed in order to support them in their growth and ability to manage their problems.
I have been providing DBT for over 2 years, with experiencing in providing DBT skills group and individual therapy in DBT. I use this skills training with most of my clients, including mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and walking the middle path skills.
I have over 3 years of experience providing TF-CBT, with a focus on stabilization and coping skills, trauma processing, healthy relationship skills, and safety and abuse prevention.
I use CBT to help clients struggling with depression and anxiety and life transitions. This treatment approach allows me to provide education on skills and address thinking patterns that affect current problem areas.
I am trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and use this approach within therapy to teach the foundations of mindfulness, practice mindful breathing techniques, body-scans, and mindful movement as a tool for relaxation and processing emotions.
