I’m Sylvia Y. Del Angel (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). I became a therapist because I know what it’s like to struggle with self-doubt, shame, and guilt. My own journey has given me empathy and a passion to help others who are facing similar challenges. As someone who has been on this journey as a woman, a mother, a sister, a friend, a stranger, a person of color, a Veteran, a person with no power, a person with power, a person with disabilities, and a human, I understand the challenges you’re facing. What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session I will get to know you, ask you questions about yourself that you are willing to share and you can ask me any questions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, in pain, out of control, invisible, guilty, ashamed, not enough, or afraid? You’re not alone. Many of my clients come to me feeling triggered by someone or work due to not being able to keep up. Others feel numb or in shock due to a loss, breakup, or death. Whatever your pain points may be, I’m here to validate and understand what you’re going through.

EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a mental health treatment technique. This method involves moving your eyes a specific way while you process traumatic memories. EMDR's goal is to help you heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. EMDR will guide you to shift your thoughts to more pleasant ones. EMDR is not a form of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a state of mind where a person is in a heightened state of suggestibility. EMDR does not use hypnosis to treat PTSD. EMDR uses eye movements to help people process and heal from trauma.

Strength-Based

Strengths-based (or asset-based) approaches focus on individuals' strengths (including personal strengths and social and community networks) and not on their deficits. Strengths-based practice is holistic and multidisciplinary and works with the individual to promote their wellbeing.What are six key principles of a strength based approach? Goal Setting. Strengths Assessment. Environmental Resources. Alternative methods come first for different situations. Hope inducing relationships. Autonomy to make meaningful choices.

Somatic

I utilized body awareness tools to help with identifying old traumas that have been stored in the body that are still causing symptoms or probably turned into pain. Everyone is different but it is very effective at helping with improved presence and mindfulness.
