I have been a therapist and worked in mental health for many years. I truly love my job. I know that I cannot help every person I meet, but I am committed to offering kindness and my best efforts to do exactly that. I aim to offer clients kindness, make them feel more comfortable with even uncomfortable conversations and cheer them on as they heal on this journey.
Whether in person or via telehealth, I hope after introductions clients feel comfortable to take the lead or allow me to help guide them through this first session. However our first session begins, I hope by the end of the session that all clients are feeling better, lighter or just content that they followed through with the appointment.
I think my greatest strength as a provider is that I have experienced hard times. I haven't just read books or learned treatments or the right things to say about certain situations or issues. In addition to those things, I have felt and lived through difficult things. This gives me a level of understanding that cannot just be learned but must be experienced. I operate from a place of kindness for everyone. I believe we all need more kindness for ourselves and especially for others. I also understand that we (including me) are all human. Our mistakes, our weaknesses, our fears play a role in the incredible and sometimes really difficult journey of life. My goal is to always help every client on their journey to the best of my abilities.
I have been using DBT with clients for years and find it be helpful with a variety of clients. I love that it can help clients see new or different perspectives as well as help them find understanding in their thoughts and behaviors. I think DBT is helpful as well as CBT and other therapy tools like reality therapy for a number of concerns, symptoms and diagnoses.
Person centered ideology should make sense. I want each client find their strengths and be empowered to play the main role in their healing. I will of course be there to mentor and help as needed in helping to ensure treatment is individualized for each person.
I find that psychoeducation may often be overlooked in counseling. Sometimes, the information behind a symptom or issue can be incredibly helpful in the healing process. I am always here for clients with questions and information and will do my best to give my clients the most accurate information with added resources as needed.
