My interest in providing therapy is directly related to my interest in hearing people’s stories. While as human beings we all have certain things in common, we are all also walking a path that is uniquely our own. And that path is not always an easy one! Therapy is a great way to talk through challenges, explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences, as well set goals and track progress.
The first time we meet is an opportunity to get to know what you as a client are looking for from therapy, from a therapist, and ultimately, what change you are hoping for in your daily life. It is a chance for you to ask questions and certainly I will have questions for you!
I am truly interested in your story and provide kind, honest, and supportive perspective.
My approach to counseling is client-centered. I will start where you want to start. As you tell your story and share your goals, I will ask questions, share information, introduce new practices and skills for you to try, and support you in taking on your most difficult challenges. I often utilize activities such journaling, but they are not required. I primarily employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy--exploring thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and how they are related, as well as Narrative Therapy, Family Systems, and Eclectic approaches.
