I like to keep initial sessions light to allow space for us to get to know each other. Initially, I will review basics like my background and approach to therapy, and then allow the session time for you to share what feels comfortable.
As a peer with firsthand experience, I know how difficult it can be to ask for help. As a therapist, I bring that compassion and empathy into our sessions to help normalize asking for and accepting help.
I like CBT as a standard goal oriented approach to therapy. By utilizing this approach, we can work together to identify how different emotions and patterns of behavior work together to contribute to any challenges faced. From there we can identify realistic ways to address behaviors and in tern improve emotional regulation.
More often than not, our challenges are worsened by irrational thinking. It's easy to get caught up in our emotions and effectively allow them to control our thoughts and behaviors. By taking a more realistic and rational look at different challenges, we can work together to improve emotional responses.
