Hello! It’s a pleasure to meet you, please call me Dee. I’m a licensed mental health counselor in Florida and a retired Army veteran. I have over 18 years of professional counseling experience working with both children and adults. My undergraduate degree was earned at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and my graduate degree earned at the University of North Florida. Credentials: Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor Nationally Board-Certified Mental Health Counselor Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor Florida Board Certified Telehealth Practitioner Certified Supervisor for Post Graduate Mental Health Counselors I have served clients as individuals, families, and within group environments. Additionally, my counseling experience has included inpatient, outpatient, and crisis stabilization units within the Florida Department of Corrections. I also served as the mental health authority within medium to low-risk juvenile inpatient programs. My experience also includes working within community social service agencies and Medicaid programs. In my years of professional experience, I have found that Depressive and Anxiety Disorders are managed best using Psychotherapy. Whereas many clients may find it helpful to include Antidepressant/Antianxiety medications, it has been my experience that medications alone are less effective and are often supported by Counseling Intervention with a Professional Counselor.
In your first session, you will meet your counselor in a nonintimidating and calm manner. You will be offered the opportunity to discuss you needs, concerns and hesitations involving the counseling process. It is my goal to ensure you feel comfortable with the use of the virtual office. You will be respected, valued and encouraged. This is your safe space. Finally, my clients are active participants in developing their treatment goals and objectives.
I have been told that I naturally calm others in the most chaotic situations. I am very direct and able to redirect others without being condescending or mean-spirited. I am trustworthy and loyal. I will always hold and respect the confidentiality of others.
I work well with those seeking to manage symptoms of Depression, Anxiety, Family Conflict and Relationship struggles. My clients are often overwhelmed and in need of a support system that is nonjudgemental, trusting and presence. My clients seek encouragement and both realistic/obtainable positive change. My most successful clients are open, engaged and determined to achieve positive change(s) the counseling process.
My counseling experiences includes Inpatient, Outpatient and Crisis Stabilization Units with Florida Department of Corrections, The Mental Health Authority for a Medium to low-Risk Juvenile Inpatient Program, Community Social Service Agencies and Medicaid Programs. My years of experience have suggested that Depressive Disorders are managed best by the use of Psychotherapy. Whereas many clients may find it helpful to include Antidepressant, it has been my experience that medications alone are less effective and are often supported by Counseling Intervention with a Professional Counselor.
I have had success with the Strength-Based Approach to psychotherapy that focuses on solution-building rather than problem-solving. SFBT concentrates on current circumstances and future hopes. My years of experience have suggested that both Anxiety and Depressive Disorders are managed best by the use of Psychotherapy. Whereas many clients may find it helpful to include Antianxiety/Antidepressant medications, it has been my experience that medications alone are less effective and are often supported by Counseling Intervention with a Professional Counselor.
