Hi there, I primarily work in substance use recovery (abstinence and harm reduction) and trauma recovery. I also have specialized training in treating anxiety, depression, and sleep issues/insomnia. My treatment orientation is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy concepts, however the foundation of my early training was Psychodynamic. I have been trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, STAIR (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation), and Seeking Safety for trauma treatment. When treating anxiety, I take a CBT, or exposure approach with skill-building. For depression I utilize CBT concepts, or behavioral activation with skill-building. For sleep issues, I work with the CBT for insomnia treatment model. These are just a few examples of treatment approaches I utilize. I am relational focused, which to me means finding a plan that works best for you, practicing cultural humility and not trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. What draws you to therapy at this time in your life? What do you expect to gain? Every therapist operates under specific assumptions in therapy, which explains the various methods, and ideologies about treatment. My only assumption about the human is that we continue to suffer because we create a disconnect between our authentic self, and who we present to others. The self we present to others inevitably creates emotions that of depression, and anxiety. Traumas are experiences outside of our control that we can choose to continue to suffer with, or use as interventions to give ourselves a new perspective on life. I strive to help others discover their authentic self, so that they can create their own fulfilment. And that fulfilment can only be created by yourself. I can only assist you in discovering who you really are, discard the self you present to others, and wish you the best as you take on your journey of creating your own well-deserved fulfilment. Sometimes ordinary psychotherapy just isn’t “it”. Most people who come into my practice come due to persistent sexual and emotional problems that regular psychotherapy analyzed, but did not effectively facilitate. Congratulations for taking the step to seek counseling. The world we live in is increasingly complex, and we can find ourselves feeling disconnected, stressed, and uncertain about what direction to take. But it is our thinking, and the way we relate to people and circumstances, that create our feelings and emotions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us observe what we are feeling and identify the thoughts that create our feelings. With increased self-awareness, we determine which of our thoughts and perceptions are distorted and unhelpful. As our thinking becomes more realistic, we feel better.
