Hi - my name is David Juncos, and I'm a licensed clinical psychologist in PA & NJ. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from La Salle University in 2014. I've been in the mental health field for 22 years and have worked as a psychotherapist for 19 years. I can help adults and teenagers who experience symptoms from a wide variety of clinical disorders (Anxiety, Substance Use Disorders, AD/HD and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Mood Disorders, Personality Disorders, and others) and common non-clinical problems (perfectionism, self-criticism and shame, problematic anger, marital or relationship distress).

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first session or two, I'll conduct a thorough interview to get to know you & your areas of need, while also prioritizing your comfort and building a good rapport. I will use that information, along with the results of your intake questionnaires, to form a clinical impression of you & your treatment needs. Then, we'll collaborate to create a treatment plan that effectively addresses your needs.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I find clients prefer a psychotherapist who can strike a balance between offering the skills of a good counselor with those of a treatment provider who is trained to administer evidence-based interventions. I aim to provide them with such a balanced approach, unless they explicitly state a preference for one style of therapy over the other.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am a generalist with over 10 years' experience in private practice. I am comfortable working with adults and teens ages 16+ from diverse cultural backgrounds who are looking for a therapist that will both support and challenge them. I am an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I am an ACT-trained clinician and trainer, and I contribute regularly to ACT-oriented research. I've had extensive clinical training & supervision in ACT, including attending workshops with Steve Hayes, the principal founder of ACT. I also train non-clinical professionals to use ACT in their work, including singing and instrumentalist music teachers and performance coaches. I co-authored a 2022 book on using ACT to treat a variety of musician's issues, including music performance anxiety.

Compassion Focused

I've had training in CFT and I use it in my clinical practice, in addition to training non-clinical professionals to use it in their work, i.e., music teachers.

Motivational Interviewing

As a former substance abuse counselor, I've had training in Motivational Interviewing to treat a variety of substance use disorders. I also use MI in combination with ACT while treating other clinical problems, i.e., depression, AD/HD, perfectionism.
