Hi, my name is Jess Burke, I am a licensed mental health counselor in Massachusetts. I became a therapist because I believe everyone should feel comfortable to access mental health services when needing support and be welcomed with a safe and nonjudgemental space. I specialize in trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, life transitions, clients impacted by the judicial system (whether it is a family member who is incarcerated or an individual themselves transitioning to the community following incarceration), and relational challenges (i.e. familial and social relationships). If you would like to schedule a phone consultation (15min free) phone call in order to further assess whether we would be a good therapeutic fit, please message me on the grow platform or email me at jessicaburkelmhc@gmail.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then learn more about what brings the client into therapy and current symptoms and/or challenges. This will help me as the therapist tailor treatment and work with the client to develop a treatment plan to guide the therapeutic work with the client during follow up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My specialty is working with clients who have experienced traumatic events that have impacted them whether it be during childhood and/or throughout adulthood. I work to address trauma related symptoms that impact developing healthy relationships in adulthood, impairment in daily functioning, causing increased anxiety, and/or healing from trauma wounds. I work with clients to explore the walls that are built as protective layers and help clients heal and be their authentic selves. I strive to provide a safe, non judgmental, strengths based therapeutic environment.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I approach all treatment with a trauma informed lens utilizing strengths based, patient centered interventions to foster a safe space for the client.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy interventions to help the client challenge anxiety and/or depression based thought patterns in order to better understand their emotions behind the behaviors and positively change negative thought patterns.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Within all sessions I strive to incorporate culturally sensitive therapy to ensure the client feels supported as an individual and that their cultural background, valued traditions and practices are also incorporated within the therapeutic space as well.

Forensic Psychology

I have worked with individuals impacted by the judicial system and strive to provide therapeutic support as clients transition back to the community following detainment and/or incarceration. Throughout my clinical career I have worked in correctional settings supporting clients diagnosed with substance use, and severe mental illness.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Throughout therapy I work with my clients to incorporate coping skills to help with grounding and breathing in order for the client to have mindfulness based coping strategies readily available to them beyond the therapeutic space.
